Planinski dom na Kofcah is the holder of the Green Key sustainability label, which we received in 2o24 and again for this year 2o25.
The Green Key is an international environmental label that promotes awareness and care for the environment, accommodation and other hospitality facilities that are committed to sustainable business practices. Its purpose is to contribute to the prevention of climate change by rewarding and advocating facilities with positive environmental initiatives.
It has strict criteria that significantly affect the efficient management of the facility and contribute to the transformation of behavioral patterns. It contains 80 mandatory criteria that we meet and we also want to meet a larger number of optional guidelines that will bring our mountain lodge even closer to you. At Planinski dom na Kofce, we encourage you to save electricity and water, adopt environmentally friendly behavior, and treat the environment responsibly. This includes, among other things,
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL SPARKS:
§ WE SEPARATE WASTE CONSCIOUSLY: We separate waste according to instructions. We always dispose of waste in appropriate containers and never into nature or drains. Waste disposed of in this way pollutes groundwater and other sources of drinking water. We try to take garbage to separate containers.
§ WE REDUCE THE USE OF PLASTIC: Plastic poses a major threat – both to the environment and to humans. In Slovenia, we produced 987,151 tons of municipal waste in 2017, or 478 kg of municipal waste per capita. Each year, an individual in Slovenia uses from 100 to 300 plastic bags, which are only used for a few minutes to an hour. As we produce more and more plastic in the world, and 6.4 million tons of it end up in the environment every year, plastic particles and substances that enter our bodies and animals have a major impact on the quality of our health. We try to avoid the use of single-use plastic products.
§ WE TURN OFF THE LIGHTS CAREFULLY: we use energy-saving/LED bulbs. We turn off the lights when we don’t need them. This contributes to lower electricity consumption and to preserving the environment. Purchasing ingredients from local suppliers, which should be seasonal and fresh
§ WE ENCOURAGE APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR ON THE LOCATION
§ WE REDUCE THE CARBON FOOTPRINT: our house has high-quality insulation and energy-saving windows. We close the doors and windows. This prevents the rooms from heating up in the summer, so additional cooling is not necessary. This effectively reduces the carbon footprint. We ventilate the rooms for a short time in the morning and evening.
§ WE EXPLORE THE SURROUNDINGS WITH ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MOBILITY TYPES: our places are ideal for cycling and hiking. Every trip/sightseeing you do by bike or on foot, instead of by car, is an environmentally friendly act. Have you ever thought about how differently we get to know a place if we visit it on foot or by bike? We really feel it, smell it, hear it up close. We open up to the residents and make contact with them more easily. Only in this way can we truly understand the places and people we visit.
